For those of you who followed me on eBay, my handle has changed from studio0805 to artbybrenden. It was a necessary change since studio0805 didn’t quite tell the whole story.

Some of my works are a bit erotic in nature. However, it doesn’t mean it has to do with sex. Sensuality comes in many forms and I have never felt that by painting male or female genitalia that the painting automatically should be labeled as “too erotic”. Painting the male nude is more of spiritual and enlightening thing for me. It brings to focus in my paintings, the truth behind the person.

You gazed and pondered

I welcomed your stare

Lights bright

bond stronger

Smooth textures

moments intensify

Color seems to over power

every inch of my body

My New Business Cards

I’ve always had an itching to change my business card on a more regular basis than most people would. I either get bored with the design or I have another great idea that I want to express and hand out. Sometimes, I actually run out and need to print more and quite frankly, that’s the most rewarding re-design of my cards I have.

In this new case, I have recently changed my site from studio805.com to a more proper branding; my name. After all, my name is my art. I am my art.

This time around, I have an idea for two cards with two different paintings. I just couldn’t decide. Here are my final sketches before I lay down the watercolor.

My journey as an artist

I’ve decided that I am going to document all the events of my life as an artist and blog about them every day. I’ve been searching for something that will connect me to with my work in a more intimate way. I’ve lost sight of a lot of things along the way and a small piece of me has been lost because of this wandering. It’s time to come home.

I will try my best to write something every day and share as much as I am willing. In hopes that I will not only have something interesting to share, but also that I also find my way as an artist again. My authentic self.

I’ve been adding new paintings a little everyday. I just recently got all my artwork recovered from a broken external hard drive. and I’ve had to crop, format and organize everything from scratch. It’s a bitter-sweet experience.

Michael Airhart Commission

The process of doing a commission has always interesting and intriguing to me. It goes well beyond just “copying” a photograph or putting paint to paper to make a buck. A commission is a lot like being a private detective; I piece together all the evidence into a visual conclusion. I go beyond just using a photograph, I enjoy the process from start to finish. I learn about a person and interpret that mental knowledge into visual expression with the use of color and composition. The photograph does help with the visual features of the subject, but in the end the color takes the cake.

Through the wonderful grace and beautiful character of Scott Abel (www.thecontentwrangler.com), Michael Airhart (www.mikeology.net) was introduced to me. I started to collect my “evidence” immediately and the Michael and I started the commission conversations. He sent over a couple photographs, I gave him a timeline and then went to the watercolor table to start my sketches.

Inspiration came from visiting the nightclubs. I loved the energy of the crowd and music was so sensual and addictive. The lights, the movement and the people made everything feel alive, free and erotic.
